Fitting for a first post...

I had a unique find this afternoon on the shores of Lake Monona in Madison. In the warmth of an early spring day, the ice was quickly making its way into liquid form. As the newly crushed crystals of ice flowed along the currents of the lake they made a wonderful, broken glass "tinkling" sound. The wind was howling and the temperature difference from the air coming over the expanse of ice, compared to the warm air elsewhere was stunning.

And, there in the midst of one of the bits of open water was an amazing sight to behold -- seven loons in the midst of their journey northward, enjoying a respite from their travels.

Without the benefit of a telephoto lens, this photo doesn't capture all of their glory. But, it is photographic proof nonetheless.
